CHMA Staff is starting to prep for the ninth annual Stereophonic music festival. With dates announced from January 18 to 21, 2012, at various (and fabulous) venues around Sackville, they will again welcome an eclectic mix of our nation’s top musicians to Sackville for what has been called one of the Maritime’s “best independent music festivals.”
Even though it is still only September, the staff at CHMA are already excited. “If you are new to Sackville, Stereophonic is a great introduction the local music scene,” says Jess Palmer, co-organizer of the music festival. “People get to see a different side of Sackville in the winter time–there is something magical about everyone huddled together in the venues supporting the friends and music they love, while the snow piles up on Bridge Street.”
If you are an artist or in a band and are interested in playing this year, drop by CHMA headquarters located on the third floor of the Wallace-McCain Student centre, and fill out a submission form.
I tried to extract from Palmer some clues about the headlining acts this year. “I can’t reveal anything until December, but we definitely have some aces in our sleeves this year,” she says with a knowing smile. Considering the acts that have played in the last couple of years such as Plants and Animals, Wintersleep, Cousins, and Old Man Luedecke, you can expect Palmer will be keeping her word.
Part of what allows Stereophonic to run independently is through the help of local volunteers who are needed for bar tending, selling merchandise, and working the doors.
